Representing an $8.8 million investment by the community, this new athletic complex breathes new life into the Madison High School athletics program, which had previously been utilizing the junior high school facilities on the opposite side of the city. The centerpiece of the complex is the 6,000 seat main stadium, the largest of any high school in the state, serves the football, soccer, and lacrosse programs at the school. The project is so monumental that Hellas Company, who provides turf for the Dallas Cowboys and other NFL stadiums, elected to donate a top-tier artificial turf field, the first ever in a high school stadium, to be used as a case study for other schools.
The scale and meticulous design of the stadium and adjacent track-and-field complex will allow the school to host state championships and other tournaments, which have previously only been hosted 6-hours away in western Idaho. These tournaments will also be a large boon to the local economy.
The complex also accompanies several additions to the high school, including a new auxiliary gym, 10 classrooms, and 2 science labs. According to Jordan Busby of the Madison School District, “We fulfilled what the voters wanted. It’s quality work, and it’s great” (Lisa Dayley Smith, Rexburg Standard Journal, 2019).
